A Lone Gunman Approach to Mobile Applications

The overwhelming popularity of the iPhone, Android, and now Palm Pre, offer many exciting possibilities. Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet that lets you hit all three platforms at once. Or is there? Each of these devices has full-featured web browsers on par with those on the desktop. This master class will examine case studies and discuss the pros and cons of developing mobile-specific websites instead of platform-specific applications. We will also discuss coding techniques for optimizing sites for mobile platforms including CSS, iPhone specific CSS extensions, HTML 5, client-side storage, and accessing GPS and hardware features through JavaScript.
